HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS & DEEP EXCAVATIONS
High rise buildings can impose heavy loads on the underlying foundation materials which requires careful consideration. Deep excavations usually require substantial shoring and have the potential to cause significant impacts to adjoining developments and infrastructure particularly those sensitive to movement and with very high consequences of failure (e.g. railway lines).
This is one of our key areas of expertise, with numerous projects being successfully completed. Our scope of work has included all stages including:
- initial planning
- detailed ground investigation
- 2D and 3D FEM analysis for design of shoring systems
- reporting and approval from Sydney Trains, and Roads and Maritime Services
- construction monitoring of shoring performance (e.g. inclinometer installation and monitoring)
- checking of footing excavations and verification of geotechnical properties
- assessment of groundwater conditions and inflow rates
- assessment of influence of development on the water table and stability of nearby structures
- advice on dewatering
- geotechnical monitoring plans
- assessment of excavatability and opportunities for soil and rock re-use (e.g. ‘heritage’ rock)
- waste classification
